  5. Kershaw Pushes Pace in Moscow Sprint; Peterson Wins

    FasterSkier.com &bull Feb 2, 2012

Maybe it was the frigid temperatures that scarcely rose above 2 degrees Fahrenheit, -17 degrees Celsius, on Thursday. Maybe it was Moscow. Maybe it was Canadian head coach Justin Wadsworth's promise of a Hawaii trip if all went well. Devon Kershaw said he wasn't sure what possessed him on Thursday, but it likely wasn't anything superficial. Throughout the World Cup 1.5-kilometer freestyle sprints in downtown Moscow, the… Full Story »

After a successful but unspectacular start to the Under-26 Open European Championships in Osrblie, Slovakia, the American team kicked things up a notch in their second outing. In Sunday's pursuit, not a single one of the six U.S. starters lost a place from their sprint ranking, and one - Leif Nordgren - rocketed up 24 places over 12.5 kilometers and four shooting stages. Old Yoghurt. That's the only way to describe today's event - it went off. The first ever Smith Optics Whitewater Junior Freeski Contest presented by Salomon finished today. But it wouldn't have happened without the well prepared boy scout of judging, Jeff Holden, who made back-up plans for back-up plans in case some foul weather moved in. And it did. The second weekend of EISA racing was hosted by the University of New Hampshire (UNH) at the Jackson Touring Center. Friday held classic sprints and Saturday held 15 and 20 k mass start skate races. Dartmouth won the weekend's team scores over UVM by grabbing all four individual titles and an impressive nine out of the twelve podium spots, though UVM snagged the remaining three. Heavy precipitation on Thursday night dumped snow onto a very thin racing course, and then proceeded into the warming morning hours with bails of sleet, rain, and "wintry mix". The choice of kick was mixed… Full Story »
